Your House Is the System
WHAT A REAL ENERGY AUDIT MEASURES
A Phoenix house with a great AC and bad ducts is a Phoenix house with a bad AC.
Most homeowners think a comfort problem is an AC problem. Sometimes it is. More often it's the duct system losing 25% of the cooled air on the way to the bedroom, or attic insulation that's settled from R-38 to R-19, or window seals that turned to dust ten summers ago.
A Home Energy Audit is the diagnostic that finds those problems with measurement, not guessing. Blower-door for envelope leakage. Duct pressurization for system leakage. Thermal camera for insulation voids. Static-pressure check on the air handler. Combustion safety on gas appliances. You leave with a written report, photos, a prioritized fix list, and a clear sense of what to do first.
The bet from our side: when you see what's actually wrong with the house, the right fix is usually obvious — and we'd rather earn your next ten years of work than sell you a $14,000 system that won't fix the comfort problem because the ducts are still leaking.
REBATE PROGRAMS WE FILE
- ●APS — high-efficiency HVAC, heat pumps, smart thermostats, duct sealing
- ●SRP — heat pumps, smart thermostats, weatherization rebates
- ●Federal 25C tax credit — heat pumps, insulation, energy audits (up to $3,200 per year)
- ●Manufacturer rebates — American Standard, Trane, Daikin, and other major-manufacturer seasonal programs
Rebate amounts change every year. We track the current programs and file the paperwork for you so the rebate actually shows up on your check, not in a brochure.
Step by Step
THE 4-HOUR HOME ENERGY AUDIT
Six measurements. One blueprint.

Initial Consultation
We start with a conversation. Which rooms are too hot, where are the drafts, what does your APS or SRP bill look like the last six months. The audit gets shaped around your actual house, not a checklist.

Utility Bill Analysis
We pull your electric and gas usage history and look for the patterns — peak-hour spikes, AC short-cycling, off-season anomalies — before we touch the house. Sometimes the savings is the rate plan, not the equipment.

Attic + Insulation Inspection
We measure attic insulation R-value, flag voids and compression, and check the radiant barrier (or the lack of one). Phoenix attics can hit 160° in July; what's above your ceiling matters more than what's outside your wall.

Blower-Door Test
Pressurize the house, measure how much air leaks out per minute. Tells us how leaky your envelope is in numbers (CFM50) — a baseline you can fix against and re-test later.

Duct Leakage Test
Most Phoenix homes lose 20–30% of conditioned air through duct leaks before it ever reaches a register. We pressurize the ducts and measure leakage to outside — the single biggest savings opportunity in 80% of audits.

Thermal Imaging + Smoke Test
Infrared camera finds insulation gaps and thermal bridges that aren't visible. Smoke pencil traces air movement at can lights, outlets, and window seals. We document everything with photos in your report.

Frequently Asked Questions

HVACDo you offer same-day HVAC service in Phoenix?
Do you offer same-day HVAC service in Phoenix?
Yes, when capacity allows. Same-day HVAC service in Phoenix is one of our most-requested calls during summer. We prioritize no-cool emergencies in 100°+ weather. If you call before noon, we usually get you on the board for the same day. If we can't, we'll tell you that up front and book the earliest slot.
HVACHow long do AC units last in Phoenix?
How long do AC units last in Phoenix?
Phoenix runs an AC unit 6–8 months a year, which is double the national average. Most systems last 12–15 years here compared to 15–20 years in milder climates. If your unit is over 12 and you're getting frequent repairs, it's time to start planning for a replacement before it dies on a 115° day.
HVACWhat size AC do I need for my Phoenix home?
What size AC do I need for my Phoenix home?
Phoenix's heat load is higher than almost anywhere else in the country, so the simple square-foot rule doesn't work. We do a Manual J load calculation that factors your insulation, window orientation, ductwork, and shading. A right-sized unit lasts longer, runs quieter, and costs less to operate. Our HVAC system builder gives you a starting recommendation; we confirm on-site.
HVACShould I repair or replace my old AC?
Should I repair or replace my old AC?
Two rules of thumb: if your unit is 12+ years old and the repair quote is more than half the cost of a new system, replace it. If your unit uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out in 2020, prices keep climbing), replacement usually wins on math within two years. We'll show you both numbers honestly so you can decide.
HVACDo you install heat pumps in Phoenix?
Do you install heat pumps in Phoenix?
Yes. Heat pumps are a strong fit for Phoenix's mild winters and APS/SRP both offer real rebates for them. Modern variable-speed heat pumps handle 115° cooling and 40° heating in one unit. If you're replacing an old gas furnace + AC combo, a heat pump conversion is worth pricing out — we'll show you the operating-cost comparison side-by-side.
PlumbingWhy is Phoenix water so hard on plumbing?
Why is Phoenix water so hard on plumbing?
Phoenix water hardness runs 250+ ppm from the Colorado River source — one of the hardest municipal supplies in the country. That scale builds inside pipes, water heaters, and fixtures, cutting their lifespan in half. A whole-home water softener pays for itself in extended appliance life and lower repair frequency.
Pricing & ServiceWhat does a service call cost?
What does a service call cost?
Our service call is $89, day or night, weekday or weekend. No after-hours premium. It's waived in full when you approve any repair, so the only time you pay it is if we diagnose your system and you decide not to move forward. Most other Phoenix HVAC companies charge more, especially after hours.
Pricing & ServiceAre you licensed and insured?
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Licensed, bonded, and insured. AZ ROC #337360, #354596, #354595, and #355009. We carry general liability and workers' comp on every tech. Ask for our COI before scheduling if your HOA or property manager requires it — we'll send it the same day.
Home PerformanceWhat are APS and SRP rebates for HVAC upgrades?
What are APS and SRP rebates for HVAC upgrades?
Both APS and SRP offer significant rebates on high-efficiency systems, heat pumps, and home performance work. Amounts change every year and depend on equipment SEER ratings. We track the current programs and file the paperwork for you. On a typical 16+ SEER install, customers see $400–$2,000+ back depending on utility and equipment.
Home PerformanceWhat is a Home Energy Audit and do I need one?
What is a Home Energy Audit and do I need one?
A home energy audit is a detailed diagnostic of where your house is wasting energy. We use blower door tests to find air leaks, thermal cameras to find insulation gaps, and duct leakage tests to measure how much conditioned air your ducts lose. Most Phoenix homes lose 20–30% to ducts and envelope leakage. Fixing the worst offenders can cut summer bills by $50–$150 a month. For first-time Way Cool customers, the audit is on us.
