The Details

WHAT THIS WORK INVOLVES

Water Softeners & RO the Way Cool Way.

Phoenix water hardness is one of the highest in the country, and the scale damage shows up in your shower glass, your faucet cartridges, your water-heater tank, and eventually your whole-house plumbing. A whole-home water softener takes hardness from 250+ ppm down to under 1 ppm.

For drinking water, a reverse-osmosis (RO) system at the kitchen sink fixes taste, smell, and removes the dissolved solids that softeners don't address. We install both, and we test your water hardness on-site before specifying equipment.

UPDATE 5/27/26: Had Way Cool Plumbing & Air back out today to service/tune-up the A/C at the rental property I manage, and once again Ping Moeveve was outstanding! Professional, knowledgeable, thorough, and incredibly helpful. He walked me through all the system readings, ratings, and overall performance of the A/C in a way that was easy to understand and never rushed. As someone managing a property, transparency and trust matter a lot, and Ping definitely delivers both.…

STUFF PHOENIX HOMEOWNERS ASK US

Frequently Asked Questions

Click to expand. No phone tree, no script — just answers.

HVAC

Do you offer same-day HVAC service in Phoenix?

Yes, when capacity allows. Same-day HVAC service in Phoenix is one of our most-requested calls during summer. We prioritize no-cool emergencies in 100°+ weather. If you call before noon, we usually get you on the board for the same day. If we can't, we'll tell you that up front and book the earliest slot.

HVAC

How long do AC units last in Phoenix?

Phoenix runs an AC unit 6–8 months a year, which is double the national average. Most systems last 12–15 years here compared to 15–20 years in milder climates. If your unit is over 12 and you're getting frequent repairs, it's time to start planning for a replacement before it dies on a 115° day.

HVAC

What size AC do I need for my Phoenix home?

Phoenix's heat load is higher than almost anywhere else in the country, so the simple square-foot rule doesn't work. We do a Manual J load calculation that factors your insulation, window orientation, ductwork, and shading. A right-sized unit lasts longer, runs quieter, and costs less to operate. Our HVAC system builder gives you a starting recommendation; we confirm on-site.

HVAC

Should I repair or replace my old AC?

Two rules of thumb: if your unit is 12+ years old and the repair quote is more than half the cost of a new system, replace it. If your unit uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out in 2020, prices keep climbing), replacement usually wins on math within two years. We'll show you both numbers honestly so you can decide.

HVAC

Do you install heat pumps in Phoenix?

Yes. Heat pumps are a strong fit for Phoenix's mild winters and APS/SRP both offer real rebates for them. Modern variable-speed heat pumps handle 115° cooling and 40° heating in one unit. If you're replacing an old gas furnace + AC combo, a heat pump conversion is worth pricing out — we'll show you the operating-cost comparison side-by-side.

Plumbing

Why is Phoenix water so hard on plumbing?

Phoenix water hardness runs 250+ ppm from the Colorado River source — one of the hardest municipal supplies in the country. That scale builds inside pipes, water heaters, and fixtures, cutting their lifespan in half. A whole-home water softener pays for itself in extended appliance life and lower repair frequency.

Pricing & Service

What does a service call cost?

Our service call is $89, day or night, weekday or weekend. No after-hours premium. It's waived in full when you approve any repair, so the only time you pay it is if we diagnose your system and you decide not to move forward. Most other Phoenix HVAC companies charge more, especially after hours.

Pricing & Service

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Licensed, bonded, and insured. AZ ROC #337360, #354596, #354595, and #355009. We carry general liability and workers' comp on every tech. Ask for our COI before scheduling if your HOA or property manager requires it — we'll send it the same day.

Home Performance

What are APS and SRP rebates for HVAC upgrades?

Both APS and SRP offer significant rebates on high-efficiency systems, heat pumps, and home performance work. Amounts change every year and depend on equipment SEER ratings. We track the current programs and file the paperwork for you. On a typical 16+ SEER install, customers see $400–$2,000+ back depending on utility and equipment.

Home Performance

What is a Home Energy Audit and do I need one?

A home energy audit is a detailed diagnostic of where your house is wasting energy. We use blower door tests to find air leaks, thermal cameras to find insulation gaps, and duct leakage tests to measure how much conditioned air your ducts lose. Most Phoenix homes lose 20–30% to ducts and envelope leakage. Fixing the worst offenders can cut summer bills by $50–$150 a month. For first-time Way Cool customers, the audit is on us.
