HVAC Maintenance & Tune-Up — FAQs

How often should you service your AC? What's actually included? Is a maintenance plan worth it? We answer the questions Phoenix homeowners ask us most.

HVAC Maintenance & Tune-Up — FAQs

Maintenance is the single most overlooked part of HVAC ownership. Most homeowners only call when something is broken — but the cheapest repair is the one you catch before it breaks. Here's the maintenance picture, plainly.

How often should an AC be serviced in Phoenix?

Twice a year is the right cadence for Phoenix: once in Spring before cooling season, and once in Fall (which addresses both heating-side prep and the deeper component cleaning the system needs after a long summer). Most national averages say once a year — that's based on milder climates. Phoenix runs the AC longer, so it needs more attention.

What does a tune-up actually include?

Our standalone Way Cool Tune-Up ($65.95) includes: full system run test, electrical component check, refrigerant pressure and temperature differential check, static pressure measurement, and filter inspection. The Basic Bones Plan ($179/year first system) adds outdoor coil cleaning, drain line flow test, and a Fall blower-wheel pull-and-clean.

Is a maintenance plan worth it?

For most Phoenix homeowners, yes. The Basic Bones Plan covers three visits a year, includes a $264 Drain Line Clear value on each Spring + Fall HVAC visit, drops your service call from $89 to $69 for repair calls, gives you 10% off repairs, and gets you priority scheduling. Plus the catch-it-early factor — a $200 capacitor catch beats a $4,000 compressor replacement every time.

What's the difference between maintenance and repair?

Maintenance is preventive — checking, cleaning, and adjusting components on a schedule. Repair is reactive — fixing something that's already failed. Good maintenance reduces (but doesn't eliminate) the need for repair. Plan members tend to have fewer repair calls and longer equipment life.

Are filters included in the maintenance plan?

We don't supply filters as part of the plan, but we install customer-supplied filters as a courtesy on every visit. We can recommend the right size and MERV rating for your system and order them in bulk if you'd like.

What if I miss a maintenance visit?

We reach out to reschedule. The plan year resets based on your enrollment date, not the calendar year, so missed visits don't evaporate — they just shift the cadence.
